YouthCharge – LGBTQ+

I am a sophomore attending ThunderRidge High School. I care very deeply about equality and mental health issues. I think being a part of the minority has made it clearer to me about the unfairness in society and I believe that mental health is a crucial part of everyone’s lives but struggling with mental health is an unimaginable journey which I would like to make very well known. I am a very passionate person which doesn’t always come across to other people but I am very passionate about the things that I care about.

I am a youth leader and a world changer. In my mind, I want to create a world where gender, sexuality, disability, and race have no bearing on how we treat others. I want a world that I can raise my children, and not have to be frightened for their safety. No African American parent should have give their children a speech on what to do when you are pulled over by a police officer. Telling them to put their hands on the dashboard and not to make any sudden movements, or teaching daughters that they should probably carry pepper spray to protect themselves from perpetrators.

Howdy, I’m Madison, I’m 15, my pronouns are she/her and I care about the issues within the LGBTQ+ community and mental health. Both topics are important to me because I deal with them everyday and so do many teens

I’m Katherine, I’m 15 and the issue I care most about is mental health. I think students’ mental health is an extremely important topic that is often disregarded and I think that it is an issue that needs light shed upon it.

There are many things that I could say I care about but if I had to pick one, it would most likely be equality amongst society.

My name is Eknara Dassanayake and I’m a freshman high school student from STEM School Highlands Ranch. The #1 issue I care about is equality, everyone should get the same opportunities and privileges no matter where they are from! I am also very passionate of the field of art and I enjoy doing various art-related activities such as drawing, painting and photography!

I’m a very introverted person, but when I get comfortable around people I become very outgoing. For me the number one issue I care about is mental health, because I deal with it on a daily basis and I want to help others with it too. I wish people knew that I’m a very fun and outgoing person, when they get to know me.

Hi my name is Iris McClure. I am interested in the issue of LGBTQ rights. I think it is really important for human being to be able to love who they love and not be punished for it so I wanted to be in the apart of that group. Something a wish people knew about me is that I love dogs, I have two dogs named Yuki and Bolin.

The 2021 cohort is currently assessing community needs and fundraising for those needs. The group’s impact statement is: “Our goal is to create a safe space for those within the LGBTQ+ community by making the members feel accepted and helping them come to terms with their identity. As well, we’d like to spread word of the challenges and discriminations members of the community must face in their everyday lives; from things like being misgendered to being bullied. We hope to start by spreading the word locally and hopefully reaching a statewide audience.” Funding priorities will be announced soon! In the meantime, get involved by donating or volunteering!
