My Actions Can Make a Difference

Isha was a member of the Douglas County YouthBoard and joined the team as an intern this summer. Here’s what she had to say about her experience in YouthRoots!

What is YouthRoots to me?

To me YouthRoots is a way for me to make an impact, to reach out, and enhance/work on myself. It allows me to really focus on the things that I care about and grow myself in ways that are essential to my life.

Why is your community important to you?

For the obvious reason first, I live here. I care about the people here, I care about the state of the overall community, and frankly my community is my home. No matter what happens I know that my community is made up of people I trust and care about. If it takes a village to raise a child, my communities over the years have acted as my village and raised me to be the person I am today.

What has YouthRoots taught you about philanthropy?

A lot of what I know about philanthropy stems from my time at YouthRoots. Whether it be how to run a non-profit philanthropically, or how to do my best in my community as a local philanthropist. I better understand how I fit into world philanthropy efforts, how my actions can make a difference, and what exactly those actions are.

Do you know a high school student looking to make change in their community? YouthBoard applications are open! Apply online by September 26.
